Me, my writing and my life.

All About Me…

Hello!

I’m Carole and I’m a stay-at-home-Mum and author-in-practice living in Shropshire (which is NOT in Wales, for the millionth time…).

My little pack consists of myself, a boyfriend, a hyperactive toddler, a baby, a gerbil, 3 guinea-pigs and 4 fish.

I love to read and I love to write. I did a Creative Writing degree at Bath Spa University and it was originally this love of writing that lead me to start blogging. Though what was purely a book-blog has steadily turned into a Mummy-and-Book-blog instead. But that’s what happens when small people invade your life – they take over a bit!

I enjoy reading almost anything and will give writing most things a go but I currently tend to lean towards soft science fiction, horror, fantasy and YA both in my own work and my reading habits.

I have a minor obsession with wolves, dogs and most other living, breathing creatures and I play the guitar very badly but cheerfully.

I’m regularly floating around in Twitter-Space so follow me on @caroleheidi and give me a wave.

Hope to see you around!!! xxx

  1. Saw your post on WoS. The best advice I can give you is to read Aristotle’s Poetics and take it to heart. Robert McKee expands on the ideas in his book Story, but everything you need is in Poetics. Unless you’re the next Jo Rowling, you’ll need to sell short stories to get started. As for resources, a copy of the Writers & Artists Yearbook is invaluable, and http://bookoven.com/ may be good for feedback and keeping you going. Good luck! And remember … bad writers love everything they write, great writers hate everything they write but are compelled to keep writing by an irrational need to write.

  2. I really need to get a new copy of the W&A Handbook, mine is distinctly out of date now. I studied Poetics in Uni but really should revise them again, thanks for reminding me :)

  3. Hello Carole,

Congratulations on the nice blog you have. We are selling unique and personalized baby blankets, where you can have the baby’s name, date and time of birth knitted. We think our products might be of interest to your readers. That is why we ask if you are interested in placing our ad on your page or organizing a contest for your readers.

I look forward to hearing from you.
