January Challenge – How Did I Do?

My January challenge was a musical one and one that required practice and patience.

But I nailed it! (sort of…) I can totally play Fall To Pieces without even needing the music now and I can pretty much get through Someone That you’re With without having to stop and work out where on earth to put my fingers for Bb. I still can’t exactly sing them in tune but meh, when I’m just playing for fun it doesn’t really matter, right?

I even perfected playing The Eagles’ Lyin’ Eyes as well, just because.

I have now started trying to learn a few more chords so I can expand my repertoire. Which is only ever enjoyed by myself and occasionally the kids but still, variety is the spice of life and all that!

Late To The Party – January Challenge

So, I failed my November challenge (but I am going to finish it and post it, I promise) and didn’t even do a December challenge because my world went a bit wonky over those months and I fell off the blogging and writing radar a bit. But I am back now *waves* and despite it being well into week 2 of January I am going to set myself a challenge for the month anyway.

I am wincing as I type due to having a good session on the guitar before I went to bed last night (steel strings are evil I tell thee!) and my challenge will no doubt make them worse before they get better. For January I challenge myself to perfect my playing of the chord F (my nemesis chord for as long as I can remember) and to learn Bb so I don’t have to stop and check it every time I hit that chord change.

If I succeed in these then I will be able to play ‘Someone That You’re With‘ by Nickleback and ‘Fall To Pieces‘ by Avril Lavigne and this will make me a happy bean. (Note: I may not be able to sing them in tune and my playing may well leave much to be desired, but it will be good enough for me.)

B is for Beer & Babysitter

Last night was Alphabet Date Night B for me & Sy. We double dated actually, with Sy’s dad & his partner which was great fun and it may well have been the first of many as we decided we needed to get together more often.

First of all we roped in my Mum and Dad to be Babysitters for Tori (Arthur had to come along due to his refusal to drink expressed milk) and then we headed off to our favourite local curry house The King Of Spice for a meal.

We had a Beer each and I kept up the B theme with a Byriani curry. It was delicious and it was great to be out (almost) without the kids (ours or theirs!) and have a grown up (ha ha) meal together.

Then we came home and Sy & I opened our unexpected present – a Blue guitar! (And they didn’t even know we were having a B themed date lol)

All in all it was a great night and I can’t wait til next month or whenever it is we all go out again :)
