MMMM: Leonardo DiCaprio

Finally! A Movie Meme I can join in with!! My lack of attendance has nothing to do with Metal Mummy’s choice of themes, I’m just really not much of a film buff. Not seen many really and generally have no idea about directors etc. This week, however, I have more to say than ‘um’ and feel like I can join in.

The theme is Leonardo DiCaprio and even I know who he is AND I’ve seen more than one of his films too

What do I think of Mr DiCaprio? Honestly? I think he has matured well into his acting.

I was severely unconvinced by him in both Romeo & Juliet and Titanic. Especially Titanic.

How can I say such a thing about a landmark film like Titanic? Well mostly because I thought it was pretty rubbish. Mainly down to DiCaprio and Miss Winslet who weren’t the most inspiring cast choices. Everyone raved about them and the film in general and when I finally saw it I was bitterly disappointed.

I think my opinion of DiCaprio’s acting is summed up by how, when he finally pegged it, I was too busy sniggering at the fact that the first thing whatsherface does after promising to ‘never let go’ is to let go and watch him sink. I had to swallow my sniggers as all my friends were busy sobbing…

(The two saddest bits of that film are the shots of all the bodies when the lifeboats arrive back and when the string quartet finally finish playing – now that makes me well up every time)

In his more recent films though, I think he has been brilliant. Inception in particular was fantastic.

He seems to have grown into his acting career and turned into a fine actor. He can be forgiven his earlier uselessness (where he was just a pretty face and a script in my mind) because everyone has to start somewhere, right?
