Teaser Tuesdays

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:

• Grab your current read
• Open to a random page
• Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
• Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

I have been reading this ebook forever and ever it feels…

Spoil Of War – An Athurian Saga by Pheonix Sullivan

From waist to thighs Elsbeth’s body tensed. She caught her breath and held it as Leodegrance’s hands slowly worked the knot, his strong fingers brushing against her, maddening in their gentleness.’

I suspect most people have already read the book I’m reading currently but my Tuesday Teaser this week is from:

Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins

‘We’re with the camera, tracking to the planes burning on the roof of the warehouse. Tight on the Capitol seal on a wing, which melts back into the image of my face, shouting at the president.’

My Teaser is from City of Hope and Despair – The City Of A Hundred Rows Vol.II by Ian Whates:

With realisation came a new perspective – this whole situation took on a darker and sharper significance. It had just become personal.

Many thanks to Angry Robot Books for letting me read and review this ARC.

My Teaser:

Magnus turned to face his companion for the first time. He resisted the answer that sprang instantly to mind - because I told you to - and instead responded, “Because while that buffoon is blundering around drawing everyone’s attention, no one will notice the real hunter skulking in the shadows.”

Pre-release copy - Some changes may occur.

Before Robert could say any more, the guards turned and marched away, and the ceiling lights winked out one at a time behind them until the soldiers had vanished through the rectangle of light. Soon all was returned to darkness.

I’m actually proof-reading this book – you can’t buy it just yet – but I am also really enjoying it. I will do a full review once I’ve finished it and then keep you posted on release dates as and when they start being more concrete.

Many thanks to Graz for letting me be one of his chosen few proof-readers and sending me my copy of the book xx

This week I’m taking my teaser from the first book on my September Spectacular Reading Challenge list: The Reduced History Of Dogs by Chas Newkey-Burden and Tony Husband. This book is a bit different to my usual choice of reading matter as it is non-fiction however it is a brilliantly entertaining read on one of my favourite subjects.

Some might say that Charles was a little irresponsible paying so much attention to his dogs, compared to all the important stuff like taxes, foreign policy, the Great Fire of London and the great plague. But he was known as the “merry monarch” – which shows that he probably got the balance just about right.

This week’s teaser is from Marianne De Pierres Dark Space which I have only just started but have been looking forward to for a while.

Naked, Trin roamed the frieze-covered walls of the Palazzo until he found his way to Franco’s private bar. In the darkness he poured himself a measure of his father’s prized cognac and tossed back the contents.

This week’s teaser is from Michelle Paver’s Ghost Hunter – the thrilling conclusion to her fantastic Chronicles Of Ancient Darkness. I’m racing through this, desperate to know what happens but still feeling that slight dread of the knowledge that once I’ve finished there’s no more to come. Easily one of the best series for teens and older kids that I have ever read – Torak, Renn and Wolf are characters that will stay with me for always.

“The thing is, when I try to think about afterwards – about going back to the Forest and being with you and Wolf and Fin-Kedinn – I can’t see it. It’s all just dark.”

My teaser this week is taken from Stephen Deas’ The King Of The Crags, which is the sequel to his brilliant The Adamantine Palace.

Of all the things that might have happened, of all the things he’d planned for, of all the fates that might have befallen him on his path to this place, here was an outcome he’d never foreseen. He was bored.

My Teaser:

As an experiment, in the winter after his accident, Fire got Cansrel to stick his hand into his bedroom fire. She did it by making his mind belive that it was flowers in the grate, and not flame.

~ page 137, Fire by Kristin Cashore

I’m reading Fire on recommendation of a friend and I’m so drawn into the story I practically toasted myself in the sun all day because I couldn’t bear to stop reading…
